ARRA Project (WBS)#: LACAP0280000
Project Title: ESPC Medford DO PV System
Index Map Locator #: 22
State: Oregon
Unit: BLM - Medford District
Description:
The Medford District will install a commercial sized solar grid interconnect system with 250 or more photovoltaic panels for the Medford Interagency Office (MIO). The project will help create and maintain local jobs, reduce the BLM's carbon footprint by using renewable energy, and support alternative energy technology development.
Recovery Act Funding:
Local contractors from Southwest Oregon will be used to do the work and provide periodic maintenance.
Benefits:
The system will provide 40-50 Kilowatts each year equating a savings of $5,000- $6,000 worth of power. The photovoltaic panels will be located on the roofs of the buildings at the MIO site near the Medford airport. A grid interconnect system will allow the solar power to be consumed immediately and any excess will be sold back to the local power company. The system does not include the potentially hazardous and expensive battery maintenance and storage.
