|Yerington Mine Site|
The Yerington Mine site is an abandoned copper mine site of mixed surface land ownership, with approximately 51 percent privately owned by Arimetco Inc. and 49 percent public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Arimetco filed for bankruptcy in 1997. In December 2004, the Nevada Governor asked the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to assume lead agency responsibilities at the site under a CERCLA 106 order. The BLM continues to coordinate with EPA, the lead agency for CERCLA activities at the site, and with the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) to complete characterization and remediation of the site.
