The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and U.S Forest Service Nevada Recreation Resource Advisory Subcommittee will meet at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area Visitor Center on Wednesday, February 17, 2010, from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Subcommittee will discuss the draft Red Rock Canyon Business Plan and proposed Standard Amenity and Expanded Amenity Fee increases. The BLM accepted written comments on the proposed plan and fee increases from August 14 through November 16. The BLM also held two meetings during this time period to provide the public additional opportunity to submit comments on the proposals. The BLM also will accept public comment at the meeting on a first come, first served basis. The length of public comment will be determined by how many members of the public sign up to speak. All discussions and public comments will focus specifically on the draft Red Rock Business Plan and proposed fee increases. For further information please contact Kirsten Cannon, Public Affairs Specialist, at 702-515-5057, or visit our website at www.blm.gov/nv/st/en/res/resource_advisory/recreation_rac.html. |

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2011, recreational and other activities on BLM-managed land contributed more than $130 billion to the U.S. economy and supported more than 600,000 American jobs. The Bureau is also one of a handful of agencies that collects more revenue than it spends. In FY 2012, nearly $5.7 billion will be generated on lands managed by the BLM, which operates on a $1.1 billion budget. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands. |
