DATE: January 12, 2007 BLM LAND SALE PLANNED FOR WEST WENDOVER Federal interest in a reversionary clause on eighty-one acres of lands in Elko County already owned by the City of West Wendover will be sold to the City of West Wendover for fair market value. The lands were patented to the City of West Wendover in October 2002 under the Recreation and Public Purposes Act (R&PP) of 1954 for a nominal fee. The City has since used some of the land for city administration buildings and a park. In 2003, the City requested to purchase all the interest in the land under a reversionary clause in the patent which will eliminate any restrictions on future use of the lands. The City would like to be able to use part of the lands for future economic growth and development along with the current uses for recreation and public purposes. According to the R&PP Act, local governments may use the land for other purposes provided they buy the reversionary clause in the patent out right at fair market value. The fair market value appraisal for the 81 acres is $1,600,000. There is a 45-day public written comment period for this sale ending February 26, 2007. The decision to sell the reversionary interest will become final if no adverse comments are received. -blm- |
