Date: April 20, 2007 CALIFORNIA TRAIL DAY CELEBRATION PLANNED The 2007 California Trail Day celebration will be held at the Elko City Park on Idaho Street located between the Elko Convention Center and the Elko Chamber of Commerce Office on Saturday, May 12, 2006 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event is free and the public is invited to attend. California Trail Center Manager Dave Jamiel said, “We’re having California Trail Day at the Elko City Park this year because construction is going great-guns at the building site. There will be a variety of historical related activities for every age group. We’ll have music, talks on life on the emigrant trail, wagon rides, oxen demonstration, Mormon Battalion re-enactors, a mule packing demonstration, primitive cooking demonstration and dutch oven cooking. Chris Bayer and family, who perform gold rush era songs using period instruments, will be there.” There will also be a variety of interactive educational activities related to the history of the emigration to California between 1841 and 1869. Several western history writers will be at an author’s corner, an 1850’s emigrant trail camp will be set up, a Native American market, as well as numerous hands-on activities and demonstrations for the entire family. For more information about the California National Historic Trail Interpretive Center or the May 12 event, contact David Jamiel at the BLM Elko Field Office (775) 753-0213. -blm- |
