“There were approximately 500 lightning strikes in Elko County the past three days,” said Elko Interagency Dispatch Center Manager Bill Roach. The Ryndon Volunteer Fire Department and NDF handled the 2-acre fire near the bridge in Ryndon. BLM and NDF crews responded to the 13-acre wildfire near the Mountain City Highway at the Charleston Turnoff. “Vegetation is drying out rapidly or is already extremely dry, especially on south slopes. We’re urging people to be cautious this spring and summer with fire and outdoor activities,” Roach added. To report wild fires, people should call 775-748-4000, 775-738-FIRE, or 911. -blm- |
