LIGHTNING FIRES BEGIN

Weekend thunderstorms with lightning caused three wildfires in Elko County. The fires burned 192 acres total and are contained.

“There were approximately 500 lightning strikes in Elko County the past three days,” said Elko Interagency Dispatch Center Manager Bill Roach.
Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF), Wells Volunteer Fire Department, and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) fire crews responded to the 177-acre Tabor Ranch Fire north of Wells. NDF used a bull dozer to put a line around the fire Saturday night and contain in.

The Ryndon Volunteer Fire Department and NDF handled the 2-acre fire near the bridge in Ryndon. BLM and NDF crews responded to the 13-acre wildfire near the Mountain City Highway at the Charleston Turnoff.

“Vegetation is drying out rapidly or is already extremely dry, especially on south slopes.

We’re urging people to be cautious this spring and summer with fire and outdoor activities,” Roach added.
