BLM Seeks Public Comment on Lincoln County Archaeological Initiative Priorities
Ely – The Lincoln County Archaeological Initiative receives funding from the Lincoln County Lands Act of 2000 and Lincoln County Conservation, Recreation, and Development Act of 2004, which authorize the use of revenues from the sale of public lands identified for disposal by the Acts and Ely Resource Management Plan. The Acts created a special account in which 85 percent of the revenues from the land sales are deposited. Funds in the special account may be used for a number of activities, including the inventory, evaluation, protection and management of unique archaeological resources in Lincoln County. The remaining funds are distributed to the State of Nevada (5 percent) and Lincoln County (10 percent).
Each year the Bureau of Land Management develops priorities for the current round of proposals. The BLM Ely District is asking the public to review and comment on the Lincoln County Archaeological Initiative (LCAI) Round 8 draft priorities. Comments will be accepted through Friday, June 20, 2014. The draft priorities are:
The public is also asked to provide comments on the draft priorities or recommend priorities they would like to see included that are not addressed. Please include sufficient information to identify the type of archaeological resource and/or the type of preservation activity(s) necessary.
