BLM Sierra Front-Northwestern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council Schedules 2014 Meetings


Carson City – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will meet with the Sierra Front-Northwestern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council (RAC) two times in fiscal year 2014: May 1 and 2, in Carson City, NV and August 28, at the Winnemucca, NV BLM District. All meetings are open to the public.

The RAC advises and makes recommendations to the BLM on public land management. Discussion items will include, but are not limited to the BLM Carson City and Winnemucca district’s resource management plans, permitted recreation, drought, sage grouse, wildfire, and wild horse and burros.

The May 1 meeting will be held at the BLM Carson City District Office, at 5665 Morgan Mill Road from 8:00 a.m. to approximately 3:30 p.m., with a drought range tour held on May 2. The Aug. 28 meeting will be held at Hycroft Mine, 54980 Jungo Road in Winnemucca, NV.

Each meeting will include a general public comment period. The RAC will hear public comments from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on May 1.

The Federal Land Policy and Management Act directs the Secretary of the Interior to involve the public in planning and discussion of issues related to management of BLM-administered public lands. The Sierra Front-Northwestern Great Basin RAC is one of three such councils in Nevada accommodating this community participation directive. Commercial and non-commercial users, are represented on the council, and include elected officials, state agencies, environmental, livestock, mining, Native American, and wild horse and burro representatives.

In Fiscal Year 2013, the BLM generated $4.7 billion in receipts from public lands.
