BLM Sierra Front-Northwestern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council to conduct One-day field tour

Carson City, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will meet with the Sierra Front-Northwestern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council (RAC) on Tues., Sept. 24, for a one-day field tour within the Winnemucca District.  RAC members, BLM staff and any interested public should meet at the Winnemucca BLM office, at 5100 East Winnemucca Blvd. in Winnemucca, at 7:30 a.m. The tour is scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The RAC advises and makes recommendations to the BLM on the management of public lands.  Discussion items will include, but are not limited to, emergency stabilization and rehabilitation, wildland fire, drought, and grazing. The agenda for the field tour can be accessed at http://www.blm.gov/nv/st/en/res/resource_advisory/sierra_front-northwestern.html.

The Federal Land Policy and Management Act directs the Secretary of the Interior to involve the public in planning and discussion of issues related to management of BLM-administered public lands. The Sierra Front-Northwestern Great Basin RAC is one of three such councils in Nevada that accommodates this community participation directive. Represented on the council are commercial and non-commercial users that include elected officials and state agencies, environmental, livestock, mining, Native American, and wild horse and burro.
