BLM Grants Right-of-Way for Transmission to Boulder city Solar Project

Las Vegas- The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) recently completed environmental analysis, and granted a right-of-way to Techren Solar LLC, for the construction of transmissions lines that would provide interconnection to a proposed solar energy project on private land in Boulder City, Nev.

The BLM has approved Techren LLC to build transmission lines on 98 acres of federal land through an existing transmission corridor. The transmission lines would provide interconnection between the proposed solar facility, and the Eldorado and Marketplace substations, and ultimately the transmission grid. Techren proposes to develop 300 megawatts of photovoltaic solar energy, which is enough to power 75,000 single-family homes.

In April of 2009 the BLM committed to helping the nation reach its clean energy future by guaranteeing coordinated processing, full environmental analysis and public review for specific renewable energy projects where the companies involved had demonstrated they were ready to advance to the formal environmental review and public participation process.

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's mission is to manage and conserve the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations under our mandate of multiple-use and sustained yield. In Fiscal Year 2013, the BLM generated $4.7 billion in receipts from public lands.
