Resource Advisory Council to hold two meetings in January

Carson City, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Sierra Front-Northwestern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council (RAC), Sage-grouse subcommittee will meet via conference call on Jan. 10, 2014, and the full RAC on Jan. 21, 2014, at the BLM Nevada State Office, 1340 Financial Blvd. in Reno. The conference call is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and will be held in the Peavine conference room on Jan. 10 and the Truckee conference room on Jan. 21. The public is invited to attend.

The RAC advises and makes recommendations to the BLM on the management of public lands.  Discussion items will include the Greater and Bi-State sage-grouse.

The Federal Land Policy and Management Act directs the Secretary of the Interior to involve the public in planning and discussion of issues related to management of BLM-administered public lands. The Sierra Front-Northwestern Great Basin RAC is one of three such councils in Nevada that accommodates this community participation directive. Represented on the council are commercial and non-commercial users that include elected officials and state agencies, environmental, livestock, mining, Native American, and wild horse and burro interests.

Individuals planning to attend and needing special assistance such as sign language interpretation or other reasonable accommodations, should contact Lisa Ross no later than Jan. 3, 2014.

For more information, contact Lisa Ross, Public Affairs Specialist, BLM Carson City District Office, 775-885-6107, or lross@blm.gov.

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's mission is to manage and conserve the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations under our mandate of multiple-use and sustained yield. In Fiscal Year 2013, the BLM generated $4.7 billion in receipts from public lands.
