The 1,119-acre Snow Creek Fire in the Goshute Canyon Wilderness, 60-plus miles north of Ely, Nev., is 60-percent contained.  Full containment of the lightning-ignited fire is expected by tomorrow evening, Friday, Aug. 16.

The fire, which continues to smolder in the steep and rugged terrain, has primarily been consuming mixed conifers and mountain mahogany since it was first reported on Aug. 8.  It poses no threat to human life or property.  Firefighter and public safety remain the top priority.

Firefighters today will continue to secure the remainder of the perimeter and mop-up.  Some resources are being demobilized for use on wildfires elsewhere in the West.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District is being assisted by the Forest Service, North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District and local private contractors.
