Snow Creek Fire Update

Size:  1,119 acres    
Percent Contained:  45%
Resources:  2 helicopters, 1 water tender, 3 engines, 1 Type 1 hand crew, 2 Type 2 hand crews, 6 smokejumpers.
Total Personnel:  108

The 1,119-acre Snow Creek Fire in the Goshute Canyon Wilderness, about 60 miles north of Ely, Nev., is 45-percent contained.   Full containment is expected Thursday, Aug. 15.

The lightning-ignited fire is burning in steep and rugged terrain, consuming mixed conifers and mountain mahogany.  It poses NO threat to human life or property.  Firefighter and public safety is the top priority as firefighters continue to secure the fire perimeter and mop-up internal hotspots with assistance from aerial resources.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District is being assisted by the Forest Service, North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District and local private contractors. 

The fire was first reported shortly after 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 8.
