Snow Creek Fire Update FINAL
Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013
Size: 1,119 acres
Firefighters yesterday evening fully contained the 1,119-acre Snow Creek Fire in the Goshute Canyon Wilderness, about 60 miles north of Ely, Nev.
Firefighters were demobilized to make them available for fires elsewhere in the West.
The lightning-ignited fire was first reported Thursday morning, Aug. 8. It burned mixed conifers and mountain mahogany just within the wilderness boundary. Firefighters prevented the fire from spreading outside the wilderness and toward nearby ranches and sage grouse habitat with assistance from aerial resources and the weather.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District was aided in its suppression efforts by the Forest Service, North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District and local private contractors.
