BLM to Hold Public Comment Meeting on Proposed Solar Project near Primm


Las Vegas –The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Las Vegas Field Office will hold public comment meetings, on the Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), for the proposed Silver State Solar South project near Primm, Nev. The Draft Supplemental EIS identifies and analyzes the potential impacts associated with the proposed project.

The BLM will conduct public-comment meetings in Primm, Las Vegas, and Jean, December 4-6, 2012 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Tuesday, Dec. 4: Primm Valley Resort and Casino, 31900 S. Las Vegas Blvd.;
  • Wednesday, Dec. 5: Renaissance Hotel, 3400 Paradise Road, Las Vegas;
  • Thursday, Dec. 6: Jean Airport, 23600 S. Las Vegas Blvd.
 The meetings will include an informational open house from 6 - 6:30 p.m., followed by a presentation about the Draft Supplemental EIS and a public comment session.

Additionally, the public may submit information and identify issues, to be addressed in the Final Supplemental EIS, through written comments. The comments must be postmarked by January 11, 2013, to be considered in the Final Supplemental EIS. Comments may be submitted by mail to the BLM Las Vegas Field Office, Attention: Gregory Helseth, 4701 N. The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2011, recreational and other activities on BLM-managed land contributed more than $130 billion to the U.S. economy and supported more than 600,000 American jobs. The Bureau is also one of a handful of agencies that collects more revenue than it spends. In FY 2012, nearly $5.7 billion will be generated on lands managed by the BLM, which operates on a $1.1 billion budget. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands.
