BLM Announces Temporary Safety Closure of Public Lands for Reno Air Races
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Carson City District, Sierra Front Field Office, announces the temporary closure of public lands adjacent to and north of Stead Airport in Washoe County, Nevada, due to activities related to the National Championship Air Races. This action is taken in the interest of safety for both spectators and participants for qualifying and competition events during the Air Races on June 13th thru June 16th, 2012 and Sept. 12th thru Sept. 16th, 2012.
The area of public land will be patrolled by Washoe County Sheriff’s Department and the Reno Police Department in coordination with the BLM to ensure that a safety perimeter within the course area is maintained throughout the duration of the events.

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. In Fiscal Year 2012, activities on public lands generated $4.6 billion in revenue, much of which was shared with the States where the activities occurred. In addition, public lands contributed more than $112 billion to the U.S. economy and helped support more than 500,000 jobs.
