BLM to Host January 19 Open House on Status Updates at Red Rock Canyon, Sloan Canyon and Walking Box Ranch

Las Vegas - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Red Rock/Sloan Field Office will host an open house on January 19 from 2 to 6:30 p.m. at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area Visitor Center. Presentations will be given at 2 and 5 p.m.

Various staff members will provide brief project status updates. This open house is part of a series the third Thursday of each month to give the public an opportunity to meet BLM staff, get information about projects and planning, and ask questions about the management of Red Rock and Sloan Canyon National Conservation Areas and Walking Box Ranch.

When participants enter the fee booth at the entrance of the 13-Mile Scenic Drive, they should tell the attendant that they are participating in the open house and fees will be waived.

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's mission is to manage and conserve the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations under our mandate of multiple-use and sustained yield. In Fiscal Year 2013, the BLM generated $4.7 billion in receipts from public lands.
