Shamrock Communications Facility Preliminary Environmental Assessment available for Public Comment

Winnemucca, Nev. -- The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Winnemucca District, Humboldt River Field Office has completed a preliminary environmental assessment (EA) for the Shamrock Communications, Inc. (Shamrock) proposal to install a communications facility. The proposed project is located about 22 miles northeast of Fernley, NV, in the Jessup area north of Interstate 80 in Churchill County, Nevada. The public is invited to comment until the comment period ends February 8.

Shamrock recently purchased several radio licenses allowing it to serve portions of several northern Nevada counties. The EA analyzed the construction of a communications facility including a transmitter building, tower and beacon, and an electrical distribution line to serve the facility.

The service area covers a 75-mile radius from the site, reaching portions of Churchill, Lyon, Pershing, Humboldt, and Washoe counties. In addition to the three commercial stations, a non-commercial and educational FM station would lease space in the facility. Other possible tenants could include cellular phone service providers, additional FM stations, and a wireless internet company.

The document may be reviewed online at www.blm.gov/nv/st/en/fo/wfo/blm_information/nepa0.html.

Printed copies are available upon request from the Winnemucca District Office.
