Authorities Prohibiting Discrimination in the WorkplaceTitle VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII): Prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Equal Pay Act of 1963 (EPA): Protects men and women who perform substantially equal work in the same establishment from sex- based wage discrimination. Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA): Protects individuals who are 40 years of age or older. The Rehabilitation Act of 1973: Prohibits discrimination against qualified individuals with disabilities. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA): Prohibits discrimination against qualified individuals with disabilities. Americans with Disabilities Act Amendment of 2008 (ADAA): The amendment makes important changes to the definition of the term "disability." Awaiting implementing regulations from EEOC. Executive Order 12106 and Executive Order 13087: Prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. Executive Order 13152: Amends Executive Order 11478 and prohibits discrimination on the basis of status as a parent. Executive Order 13145: Amends Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and prohibits discrimination on the basis of genetic information. Civil Service Reform Act of 1978 (CSRA): Designed to promote overall fairness in federal personnel actions. |
