Public Observation Opportunities

When can I visit?

The public lands where the Jackson Mountains gather will be taking place will be open to the public during the gather operations, subject to necessary safety restrictions. The public is welcome to attend the gather, and is encouraged to attend on Saturdays, when the media and public will have additional interpretive opportunities and staff will be available to answer questions. Weather and gather operations can affect observation opportunities.

Interested observers should call the gather hotline at (775) 623-1541.

For general information on the Wild Horse and Burro program, call (866) 468-7826.

What are the procedures?

Observation Protocols

The BLM is committed to providing as much public access as possible, however, the Jackson Mountains Herd Management Area is rugged and remote and public safety is our first priority.  BLM staff will be available each day to escort the public into observation areas.  Those wishing to participate must meet at the Winnemucca District Office no later than 5:00 a.m. Know Before You Go!
