Community Wildfire Protection Plan
A Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) is a plan developed and directed by the local community in an area at risk from wildfire involving interested and collaborative parties including local government, fire departments and, if present in the vicinity, state and federal land management agencies.
A CWPP has five primary goals with measurable objectives tiered to each goal:
- To identify and prioritize the surrounding area, both federal and non federal lands, for hazardous fuels reduction treatments, as well as recommending methods for achieving hazardous fuels reductions;
- The plan recommends measures for reducing structural ignitability throughout the community at-risk;
- The plan identifies infrastructure, e.g., signs, bridges, water sources, etc., that need to be improved so as to enable emergency response agencies to respond and mitigate any emergency that may occur in that community;
- Inform local citizens of methods to prevent and mitigate wildfires on and around their property, and;
- The plan develops a "pre-attack plan" for local emergency agencies so preplanned coordination, strategies and locations are identified for a wildfire suppression effort.
