Winnemucca Fire Resources and Planning

Rx burn Winnemucca Wildland Urban InterfaceFire Resources and Planning is a three-part program in the Winnemucca Fire and Aviation Division:

  • Emergency Stabilization and Rehabilitation (ESR)
  • Fire Prevention and Mitigation
  • Fuels

Emergency Stabilization and Rehabilitation is done after a wildfire burns through an area. Primary goals include soil stabilization, erosion control, and prevention of invasive plant species from becoming established. The link on the right will take you to a more in-depth look at this program.

The Fire Prevention and Mitigation program is responsible for coordinating with the public on fire prevention, i.e. the Smokey Bear campaign, and establishing mitigation measures for home owners and the district in the event of a wildfire. Fire Prevention and Mitigation is a zone program in coordination with the Battle Mountain Field Office. More information can be found by following the link on the right.

The Fuels program implements fuels management projects to reduce hazardous fuels on public lands which help protect valuable natural resources and create a safer environment for the public and wildland firefighters in the event of a wildfire. The Fuels program also monitors cheatgrass fuel loading across the district and takes sagebrush and pinyon pine fuel moisture samples (which are used to calculate potential fire behavior) through the summer. To find out more about the fuels program follow the link on the right.
