|Resource Management Plan - Winnemucca District Office|
Description of Planning Area
The planning area for the RMP includes all of Humboldt County and parts of Churchill, Lyon, Pershing, and Washoe counties in northwestern Nevada. (Map) Intermingled with public lands in this area are tracts of privately owned land as well as tribal lands and lands owned by the State of Nevada and other federal agencies. The BLM does not manage lands for other federal entities. The RMP covers public lands administered by the BLM, Winnemucca District.
The WD RMP planning process officially began March 25, 2005 with the publication in the Federal Register of a Notice of Intent to Prepare a Resource Management Plan. During this scoping period, the public was invited to submit their comments to the WD. Public involvement is an integral and important part of land use planning. The BLM wants to know how people think their public lands should be used and managed.
Opportunities for public involvement and comments are provided throughout the planning process. The BLM uses the information from public and other sources to determine current resource conditions, changes needed in managing these resources, and desired conditions for public lands the WD manages. Based on the current schedule estimates, the BLM anticipates issuance of the Proposed RMP/Final Environmental Impact Statement in summer of 2013.
