Collecting Cactus and Joshua Trees
Print Page

In Nevada, the sale and transportation of cacti and yucca (including Joshua trees) are regulated by the Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF). To discourage illegal collection, all wild collected cacti and yucca moved or sold in the state must have a tag is issued by NDF, regardless of where they are collected.

On a district by district basis, some BLM field offices, issue permits and tags that allow the public to collect cacti and yucca. Because of high public demand and the environmental sensitivity of our the area, the Southern Nevada District does not issue collection permits; instead, we periodically hold sales where the public can come and salvage (dig up) cacti and yucca from lands that are slated for development.
