Picnic Areas

Picnic areas are located at Willow Spring (along the scenic drive) and at Red Spring (in the Calico Basin area). Both picnic areas have tables, barbecue grills, and toilets. Drinking water is available only at the visitor center.


Red Spring Day-Use Area
 
Facilities: Red Spring Day-Use Area (Red Spring) offers a interpretive boardwalk, picnic area, two vault toilets, trash receptacles, and a parking area capable of handling 210 vehicles. The surrounding area also offers opportunities for hiking and rock climbing.  
 
The interpretive boardwalk is a half-mile loop that is wheelchair-accessible. Visitors have the opportunity to read the various interpretive panels explaining the surrounding area, see rock art, and view the sensitive spring area and meadow. The boardwalk also offers an expanded area in the center of the meadow for field-trip speakers and weddings.
 
The picnic area includes five individual sites and one large group site. Both the individual and group sites offer shade structures, grills, and tables. The use of charcoal grills are prohibited when fire restrictions are in effect. Use of the picnic areas are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Reservations can be made for the group picnic site. The group picnic site provides shade, six tables, and two grills. Reservations can be made by email RRC_reservations@blm.gov or calling (702) 515-5371.

Please see the list below for reservation rules and regulations:

• The cost to reserve the group picnic site is $40. The fee is non-refundable.
• Reservations are honored on a first-come, first-served basis.
• Reservations must be made 30 days in advance of intended use. The reservation fee is due 14 days before use.
• Payments can be made by cash, check, or credit card. Please make checks payable to the BLM.
• The group picnic site can only be reserved once per day and is limited to four hours.
• Reserved use is limited to the group picnic site only. No group activities can be conducted in the boardwalk meadow or parking lot, such as kick ball, soccer, yoga, etc.
• Groups must stay on established trails and hardened surfaces. Access to other public areas including trails, individual picnic sites, or parking cannot be blocked.
• Group size is limited to 50 people.
• The group picnic area must be entirely cleaned-up and trash taken out before leaving.
• Propane/gas grills are encouraged. Charcoal must be cleaned out after use. Fire restrictions may limit use of grills.
• No commercial activities are allowed in conjunction with this reservation, unless it is associated with a Special Recreation Permit (weddings, fundraisers, etc.)
• Water and power are not provided at the group picnic site.
• Jump houses, dunk tanks, tents, live bands, generators, silly string, confetti, piñatas, chalking, painting, or pony rides are not authorized.
• Dogs must be leashed at all times in the picnic area. Owners must pick up pet waste immediately and dispose of in appropriate containers.
• Collection of wood, plants, wildlife, cultural features, or rocks are not permitted.
• All members of the group are responsible for knowing and obeying the posted rules and regulations of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.
• A copy of the group picnic site reservation form must be presented to an authorized BLM representative if requested.  

Location/Access: Red Spring is located in the Calico Basin area. To access the area, head west on State Route 159 from the end of West Charleston until you reach Calico Basin Road. Take a right on Calico Basin Road and follow the road until you reach Red Spring.
     
Hours: October 1–31, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
 November 1 – February 28, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.
 March 1 – March 31, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
 April 1 – September 30, 6 a.m. 8 p.m.
