Field Trip Programs
The environmental education program at Red Rock Canyon NCA is implementing some changes. Groups can either spend the fieldtrip with a ranger, or by themselves on a hiking trail. The option for both is only available to groups who can spend an extended period of time at Red Rock Canyon NCA. We have made these changes to better accommodate time restraints placed by the transportation department. The second change we have made is that we will only be allowing one school bus per option per day. We are sorry if this causes an inconvenience, but the resources cannot take a larger impact.

Option 1: Spend your entire field trip on the trail! From 10:00 A.M.-12:30P.M. your class will be the only group scheduled on the trail and at the Willow Springs Picnic Area. You will now have an extended period of time to explore either the Lost Creek Children's Discovery Trail or the Pine Creek Trail. This will allow your students more opportunities to investigate the different ecosystems, plants, and animals of the desert.

Option 2: Spend your entire field trip with a Park ranger. From 10:00 A.M.-12:30 P.M. your class will have the opportunity to tap into the resources the visitor center has to offer. The rangers will now be conducting grade specific lessons that meet the National Science Standards. Depending on the specific lesson, students will use the weather station, tortoise habitat, exhibits, and trails around the visitor center to learn about the desert.

We will start taking reservations for September through December on June 1. Reservations for January through June  will begin September 1. You can call the visitor center at 515-5350. Keep in mind that available spacing will fill up quickly due to the new format.
