Mt. Charleston Wilderness Area Map 13,598 acres Location: 20 miles west of Las Vegas Terrain: The area contains mid-elevation canyons and ridges that form the western slopes of the existing Mt. Charleston Wilderness area. Elevations range from 3,000 to 9,843 feet. Habitat Type: Montane forests of pine, pinyon-juniper and creosote bush scrub.
Special Features: • The area provides habitat for the only herd of Rocky Mountain elk in Clark County. • Several sensitive mammal and plant species occur in the area. Sensitive mammal species include Palmer’s chipmunk and long-eared myotis bats. Sensitive plant species include Clokey paintbrush, Jaeger beardtongue and Mohave milkvetch. |
