Las Vegas – Beginning Monday, March 15, the public will have the opportunity to review and comment on the preliminary recommendations for the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act (SNPLMA) Round 11 expenditures. Public comments will be accepted for 45 days through close of business (4:30 p.m. PT) Wednesday, April 28, 2010. The SNPLMA funds are generated from the sale of public land in the Las Vegas Valley. The recommendations include expenditures of approximately $47 million, including an $8.1 million set-aside for restoration projects at Lake Tahoe, a $5 million set aside for a Special Account Reserve, and $33.9 million for a variety of conservation, restoration, and improvement projects throughout Nevada in the following categories:
The recommendations, project tables, executive summaries, and project nominations will be available on the SNPLMA website at www.blm.gov/snplma. The BLM manages more land - over 245 million acres - than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The Bureau, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands. |
