Fire restrictions remain in place Las Vegas – Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area will host a series of events during the Fourth of July weekend highlighting the history of wildland fire. These will include exhibits on the role of fire in nature, crafts and activities for children, a BLM wildland fire engine and a series of talks by a Teddy Roosevelt actor. BLM wildland firefighters will be at the visitor center on July 3 and 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. offering tours of a fire engine. Hour-long performances by actor Joe Wiegand playing Teddy Roosevelt on July 3 are at 1 and 3 p.m. Performances on July 4 and 5 are at 11a.m., 1 and 3 p.m. When he’s not performing, Wiegand will tour the visitor center and greet visitors from 12 to 4 p.m. on July 3 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 4 and 5. Fire restrictions remain in place in Southern Nevada, including the restriction of possession and use of all fireworks (including safe and sane) on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) managed public land in Southern Nevada. In May 2010, fire restrictions went into effect that prohibited the following on public lands managed by BLM:
BLM is also prohibiting the use of copper washed steel jacket ammunition on public lands as it is a known fire starter. |

The BLM manages more land - over 245 million acres - than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The Bureau, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands. |
