Sloan Canyon public hearings slated

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will hold public hearings in two locations to receive verbal and written comments on the draft Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area Resource Management Plan (RMP) and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
Formal hearings will be held:
• Tuesday, May 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the BLM Office at 4701 North Torrey Pines
• Wednesday, May 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Paseo Verde Library at 280 South Green Valley Parkway.

The hearing will begin with a brief presentation. Following the presentation, the remainder of the time will be available for oral comments, which will be limited to three minutes per person.
The draft RMP/EIS describes and analyzes the potential environmental impacts of four alternatives for management of Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area. The 90-day public comment period began March 25, 2005 and ends June 23, 2005.

The public hearings are part of the BLM's two-year planning process aimed at developing a resource management plan by November 2005. When finalized, the document will establish guidance, objectives, policies and management actions for the state’s newest NCA.
