FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 5, 2005 Sloan Canyon public hearings slated The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will hold public hearings in two locations to receive verbal and written comments on the draft Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area Resource Management Plan (RMP) and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The hearing will begin with a brief presentation. Following the presentation, the remainder of the time will be available for oral comments, which will be limited to three minutes per person. The public hearings are part of the BLM's two-year planning process aimed at developing a resource management plan by November 2005. When finalized, the document will establish guidance, objectives, policies and management actions for the state’s newest NCA. # # # Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area includes 48,438 acres of scenic and culturally significant Mojave Desert terrain south of Las Vegas and adjoining Henderson. Initial funding for the management of the NCA was provided by the sale of nearly 500 acres of public land. |
