Government Peak Wilderness Area

The Government Peak Wilderness Area lies off the northern end of the Snake Range in eastern Nevada. Vegetation ranges from desert shrubs and grasses at the lower elevations to scattered pinyon and juniper stands on the slopes of Government Peak and surrounding hills. Bare rock cliffs jut skyward on the eastern side of the area. Indian Paintbrushes and cacti are the most common wildflower in the area. Mule deer, elk and wild horses are known to roam the region. Raptors, such as red tail hawks and golden eagles, may also be spotted.
