Cave Valley Ranch LLC on Cave Valley Ranch Allotment
The purpose and need for the action is to fully process and renew the term grazing permit and reissue a permit for Cave Valley Ranch LLC (Michael McBeath) on the Cave Valley Ranch Allotment (00904). The current grazing term permit was issued from 05/17/2006 to 05/16/2016. This allotment is located in the Cave Valley Watershed. Total grazing use for the Cave Valley Ranch Allotment is 4,969 AUMs of which 2403 AUMs are active use and 2,566 AUMs are suspended nonuse. The term permit currently authorizes 397 cattle from 5/1 to 10/31. An evaluation of the range monitoring data and rangeland health will be conducted for the Cave Valley Ranch Allotment. This data will be summarized in a Standards Determination Document that will be provided for public review at a later date.
ALLOTMENT LOCATION / DESCRIPTION
Cave Valley Allotment is located in both White Pine County (26%) and Lincoln County (74%) Nevada T. 8-10N. R. 64E. sections: many.
The Cave Valley Ranch Allotment consists of 38,524 acres of public land and 3,020 acres of private land. Approximately 21,745 acres of the allotment occur within the Mt Grafton Wilderness Area.
WILD HORSE HERD MANAGEMENT AREA
Cave Valley Ranch Allotment is not located within a wild horse herd management area.
The entire allotment provides habitat for elk, pronghorn and deer during various seasons. Part of the eastern area of the allotment is considered key summer habitat for both deer and elk. Bighorn sheep are considered to occupy the eastern higher elevations of the allotment, but in low to no populations.
There are many springs on this allotment, and though many are developed to different extents, there are still some riparian areas.
SPECIAL STATUS SPECIES
The allotment is within the Sage Grouse Cave Valley Population Management Unit and includes nesting, summer, winter and yearlong habitats. One lek is located within the allotment.
