The BLM Ely District is currently accepting applications for summer 2007. Applications will be accepted through April 15, 2007.
There are temporary seasonal positions available on engine, fuels and Helitack crews, and as dispatchers. Successful applicants may be stationed in Caliente, Ely or Pony Springs, Nev.
Applications must be submitted using the BLM’s automated application system, called FIRES, available on the Internet at: http://http://www.firejobs.doi.gov.
Length of appointment varies, depending on agency needs and funding, but cannot exceed 180 days, excluding overtime and training, during a service year. Salary for these positions ranges from $9.91-$13.58 per hour, depending on experience, with a normal term of employment from June 1 through mid-September.
Applicants must be 18 years of age at time of employment. They must also be a U.S. citizen. Selected applicants must complete a pre-employment drug screening and physical examination prior to appointment, and are subject to random drug screen testing during their period of employment. Those selected for primary firefighter positions must also pass the "pack test" after entering on duty. This test consists of a three-mile walk over flat terrain carrying a 45-pound pack in 45 minutes or less.
