What's New?

  • Pacificorp has submitted Right-Of-Way applications for the proposed TransWest Express (Transwest) and Energy Gateway South (EGS) Transmission Lines Projects.  The projects would extend from Wyoming to the Crystal Substation near Glendale, Nev., and consist of one 500kV DC line (Transwest)  and one 500 kV AC line (EGS).  The proposed power lines would take separate paths through Utah, then cross the southeast corner of the Caliente Field Office.  The Wyoming BLM has taken the lead for the projects; separate Environmental Impact Statements will be prepared for the lines.
  • The comment period for the OnLine Transmission Project ROW Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement ended on January 8, 2010.  The OnLine Project was proposed by NV Energy for a 500kV Transmission Line to run mostly within the southern portion of the SWIP Utility Corridor.  The utility corridor is named for the Southwest Intertie Project; it's location can viewed on Map 12 of Appendix F of the Ely District Resource Management Plan (RMP).
  • The BLM, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) and Department of Energy (DOE) are preparing a Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) to evaluate utility-scale solar energy development.  The Record of Decision for the PEIS will possibly amend the Ely District and other BLM RMPs to implement an agency-wide solar energy development program.  Site-specific evaluations are being conducted for several areas within the Caliente Field Office to determine suitablity for solar development.
  • The BLM, on March 19, 2009, closed the comment period for the Draft EIS for the Holly Energy Partners, LP, application for a 12-inch pipeline that would extend about 400 miles, from near Salt Lake City, in Utah, to Las Vegas.  The pipeline would generally follow the Kern River gas pipeline route, which passes through the southeast corner of the Caliente Field Office, and would accept gasoline, diesel and jet fuel with an initial capacity of 50,000 barrels, daily.  Two refined products bulk-loading terminals would be constructed near St. George, in Utah, and North Las Vegas.
  • The Lincoln County Power District LCPD has submitted an application for a new 138kV Transmission line in the SWIP corridor from the Scott Substation to the Delamar Switchyard.  The switchyard would be upgraded to a substation.   As part of the project, LCPD would construct and operate a new switchyard at Mt Irish and an approximately 14 mile 69 kV transmission line on BLM-administered lands to interconnect provide power to the Nevada Test and Training Range.
