Q: Can funding be used for archaeological projects outside Lincoln County?
A: No; funds are for projects within Lincoln County only.
Q: Can funding be used for archaeological resources that are less than 100 years old?
A: No. Under the Archaeological Resources Protection Act of 1979, an archaeological resource must be at least 100 years old.
Q: Can funding be used for projects on private property?
A: No.
Q: Do projects have to be conducted on federal-administered land?
A: Yes.
Q: How do I nominate a project?
A: You must complete a nomination package. See the website for more information and package documents.
Q: When will I know if the project has been approved?
A: Approximately ten months after close of the nomination period.
Q: Who is eligible to receive project funding?
A: Entities that qualify for assistance agreements or that are able to contract for work through an RFP Process.
Q: What is the nomination review process?
A: Nominations are screened and ranked by the Archaeological Resources Team (ART), the nominations with ranking are then presented to the BLM Mojave-Southern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council. Nominations are returned to the ART with public comments and recommendations are made by the ART to the Inter-Agency Working Group. The Working Group will then send its recommendations to the Executive Committee. This committee provides final recommendations for funding to the BLM Nevada State Director who will make the final decisions.
Q: Upon approval of a project nomination, will the nominating entity receive the project funding?
A: Yes, applicants are to apply through the appropriate web site identified in the Research Priorities list.
Q: Will multi-year projects be considered?
A: Yes.
Q: Do I already need to have an assistant agreement?
A: No. You can apply for one.
Q: Is there a limit to how much funding can be requested for a project?
A: Yes. The annual budget for all projects is expected to be around $600,000.
Q: Should projects be presented in phases?
A: Presentation in phases is encouraged.
