BLM Nevada News BLM Seeks Public Input on Robinson Mine Water Management EA The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District is asking for the public’s input in the preparation of an environmental assessment (EA) for an amendment to the Robinson Nevada Mine Plan of Operations to address water management activities for the mine’s already-approved mining and processing operation. A public scoping meeting is scheduled at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 5, at the Bristlecone Convention Center, 150 Sixth Street, in Ely. The formal public scoping process concludes at 5 p.m., Friday, March 27, 2009. Interested individuals should address all written comments to the BLM Ely District Office, HC 33 Box 33500, Ely, NV 89301 Attn: Lynn Bjorklund. The EA will evaluate the impacts that the Proposed Action will have on human, natural and cultural resources, and identify measures to mitigate or reduce the impacts. The Proposed Action covers the construction of facilities necessary to dispose of water removed from the Ruth Pit area. The water would be disposed of in the same hydrographic basin from which it was removed. Water discharge possibilities include one or more of the following: Rapid Infiltration Basins that would release the water back into the ground north of the Pit area, construction of a water line that would tie-in to the City of Ely system for municipal use, and discharge of the water into the Gleason Creek drainage east of Ely. For more information, contact Lynn Bjorklund, project manager, at (775) 289-1893 or lynn_bjorklund@nv.blm.gov -BLM- |
