BLM Seeks Public Comment on Wilderness Management Plan

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District is asking for the public’s comments on the Mormon Mountains, Meadow Valley Range and Delamar Mountains Wilderness Management Plan and Draft Environmental Assessment.  The three wilderness areas are in Lincoln County, Nev.  They were designated as wilderness by the Lincoln County Conservation, Recreation, and Development Act of 2004.

The 45-day public comment period concludes at close of business, Wednesday, April 15, 2009.  Interested individuals should address all written comments to the BLM Ely District Office, HC 33 Box 33500, Ely, NV  89301.

The Mormon Mountains, Meadow Valley Range and Delamar Mountains Wilderness Management Plan and Draft Environmental Assessment is available on the BLM Ely District website at http://www.blm.gov/nv/st/en/fo/ely_field_office.html. Compact discs and paper copies are available at the BLM Ely District Office, at 702 North Industrial Way, and the BLM Caliente Field Office, at 1400 South Front Street, in Caliente, Nev.

The BLM is preparing a single management plan for the three wilderness areas because of their proximity and similarity of issues.  The plan provides the BLM primary guidance on all decisions affecting the wilderness and establishes management practices that will maintain and protect their values for this and future generations.

For more information, contact Dave Jacobson, BLM Ely District wilderness planner, at (775) 289-1873 or dave_jacobson@nv.blm.gov
