BLM Nevada News BLM Successfully Gathers Nuisance Wild Horses Caliente, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District Friday concluded gather operations in the Caliente area. The BLM gathered and removed 118 wild horses that were creating a nuisance to private property owners and creating a safety hazard. The gathered horses were transported to a BLM facility in Delta, Utah, where they will be made available for adoption or sale to individuals who can provide them a good home. The emergency gather was conducted to prevent the animals from causing further damage to private property in the Highland Knolls and Indian Ridge neighborhoods, and Rainbow Canyon. The situation was also creating serious safety threats to the horses and motorists on U.S. Highway 93 and adjacent roads. The horses were migrating into the housing developments because of a lack of available forage and water on the nearby Highland Peak, Clover Mountains and Little Mountain herd management areas. The BLM conducted the gather in coordination with local law enforcement and supportive landowners. For more information, contact Chris Hanefeld, BLM Ely District public affairs specialist, at (775) 289-1842 or chris_hanefeld@nv.blm.gov.
