BLM Issues Final Decision for Ely Planning Document
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) published a notice of availability of the Record of Decision (ROD) for the Approved Ely Resource Management Plan (RMP) in the Federal Register on Friday, Sept. 26, 2008. The RMP will guide the management of BLM activities on about 11.5 million acres of agency-administered public lands and minerals in Lincoln, White Pine and a portion of Nye counties.
The planning document will help to implement the Eastern Nevada Landscape Restoration Project, a major component of the Great Basin Restoration Initiative. The initiative is a long-term effort to restore the Basin’s native plant species and halt the spread of invasive species.
The RMP addresses BLM program areas, such as livestock grazing, mining, recreation, wild horses, off-highway vehicle use, endangered species and wildlife. The comprehensive long-term plan will also designate new areas of critical environmental concern, and determine lands for disposal and lands open to fluid mineral leasing.
The ROD serves as the final decision for the land use plan decisions described in the Approved RMP. The ROD also contains implementation level decisions that are appealable. These decisions are identified in the Dear Reader letter for the ROD. Any party adversely affected by the proposed decisions may appeal within 30 days of publication of this Notice of Availability. An appeal should state the specific decision in the Approved RMP which is being appealed and must be filed with the Ely District Manager. Please see the Dear Reader letter in the ROD for more direction on filing of appeals.
The BLM developed the documents with input from other federal agencies, tribal, state and local governments and the general public.
