BLM Nevada News
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District Office has released the White Pine Energy Station Project Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS). The 30 day availability period concludes at 5 p.m., Monday, Nov. 3, 2008. A Record of Decision will be released after this period has concluded. The FEIS evaluates impacts that the 1590-megawatt coal-fired, electric power plant and associated facilities would have on human, natural and cultural resources, as well as determines what measures would be necessary to mitigate or reduce the impacts. The electric power-generating facility, proposed by White Pine Energy Associates, LLC, would be located in the Steptoe Valley Hydrographic Basin, approximately 34 miles north of Ely, in White Pine County, Nev. The BLM has identified the proposed action, located 24 miles north of McGill, NV, as the agency-preferred alternative. Copies of the FEIS are available in either hard copy or on compact disks (CDs) upon request from the Bureau of Land Management, HC 33 Box 33500, Ely, NV 89301 or via the internet at http://www.blm.gov/nv/st/en/fo/ely_field_office.html. Copies of the ROD are available for public inspection at the following locations:
