BLM Burns Slash Piles of Pinyon and Juniper

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District is this winter burning slash piles of pinyon and juniper on and around Connor’s Summit, about 20 miles southeast of Ely.  Area residents can expect to occasionally see smoke from the prescribed fires.

The slash piles are all that remain from the recently-completed Connor Power Line Wildland Urban Interface and Fuels Reduction Project that created a 300-foot wide buffer along the power line right-of-way from Connor’s Summit to Majors Junction on U.S. Highway 93.  The buffer protects life and property, and provides for the safe management of naturally-occurring wildland fire, in accordance with the BLM Ely District Managed Natural and Prescribed Fire Plan.
