BLM Seeks Public Comment on Proposed Sage Grouse Habitat Restoration Project

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District Office is asking for the public’s comments on the Lincoln County Sage Grouse Habitat Restoration Project Preliminary Environmental Assessment.  Written comments should be received in the Ely District Office by close of business, Wednesday, May 21, 2008.

The Lincoln County Sage Grouse Habitat Restoration Project would implement sagebrush restoration treatments on about 9,500 acres of public lands in Cave, Hamlin Lake, South Spring Valleys and Patterson Pass in Lincoln County.

Under the proposal, the BLM would apply chemical, mechanical or prescribed fire treatments, or combination thereof, adjacent to active sage grouse strutting grounds to improve nesting and brood-rearing habitat.  The treated areas would be seeded with a mixture of perennial grasses and forbs. The treatments are identified in the Lincoln County Sage Grouse Conservation Plan and Greater Sage-Grouse Conservation Plan for Nevada and Eastern California.

For more information or to provide input, contact Paul Podborny, Wildlife Biologist, at (775) 289-1868 or by email at ppodborn@nv.blm.gov

Those submitting comments should be aware that personal identifying information included in public comments may be publicly available at any time.
