BLM Seeks Additional Public Input on Wilderness Management Plan Development

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District is soliciting additional public participation in the development of the Delamar Mountains, Mormon Mountains and Meadow Valley Range Wilderness Management Plan.

The BLM has scheduled three public workshops in Nevada, at 6 p.m.  Dates and locations are:

  • June 30 (Monday) BLM Las Vegas Field Office, 4701 N. Torrey Pines Drive, Las Vegas
  • July 1 (Tuesday) Mesquite Campus Library, 150 North Yucca Street, Mesquite
  • July 7 (Monday) BLM Caliente Field Office, 1400 South Front Street, Caliente

Public comments should be submitted to the Bureau of Land Management, Ely District Office, Attn: Dave Jacobson.  All comments must be received by close of business Friday, July 11, 2008.

The BLM is preparing a single management plan for the three wilderness areas because of their proximity and similarity of issues.  The plan will provide the BLM primary guidance on all decisions affecting the wilderness areas and establish management practices that will maintain and protect their wilderness values for this and future generations.

The BLM anticipates completing a draft plan and making it available for public comment in October 2008.  The final plan is scheduled for completion in December 2008.

For more information contact Dave Jacobson, BLM Ely District Office Wilderness Planner, at (775) 289-1800, or at HC 33 Box 33500, 702 North Industrial Way, Ely, NV 89301.
