Jacob Fire Contained, Emergency Stabilization and Rehabilitation Underway

Hiko, Nev. – Firefighters on Saturday fully contained the Jacob Fire, burning on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) administered public lands about 10 miles northwest of Hiko.  No private property or structures were threatened.  There were no injuries.

Incident Commander Eric Ellison said the fire, estimated at 460-plus acres, was contained at 8 p.m.  Mop-up operations continued through Sunday, he said.

The lightning-ignited fire was first reported at about 6 p.m., last Wednesday.  The BLM implemented a full-suppression strategy for public and fire fighter safety, and to protect area resources.  The Nevada Division of Forestry and Forest Service assisted the BLM.

Ellison said the fire area would be assessed as soon as possible, as part of emergency stabilization and rehabilitation efforts.  “We’ll prepare an emergency stabilization plan and determine the need for a burned area rehabilitation plan, based on the assessment.”
