BLM to Sell Pinyon-Juniper Firewood at Public Auction

Ely, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is scheduled at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 12, to sell six lots of seasoned, cut and stacked pinyon-juniper firewood.  The auction will be conducted through sealed bid at the BLM Ely District Office, 702 N. Industrial Way, in Ely.

The minimum bid is $30 per cord.  Separate bids must be placed for each lot.  Four lots, of about two cords each, are located at the Ely District Office and can be viewed between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Two lots, of about four cords each, are located about 35 miles outside Ely and are accessible only by four-wheel drive vehicle.

The firewood resulted from a recently completed aspen stand restoration project in White Pine County.  The project will help the aspen stand to regenerate by selectively removing the encroaching conifers.  Aspen stands provide habitat for many wildlife species, including sensitive species like the northern goshawk.  Proceeds from the sale will be used to perform future forest health improvement projects, district wide.

For more information or to obtain a bid form, contact Zach Peterson, BLM forester, at the Ely District Office or call (775) 289-1871.
