BLM Nevada News BLM Seeks Public Input on Proposed Cave Valley Habitat Improvement Project Ely, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District is asking for the public’s input on a proposal to conduct a habitat improvement and fuels reduction project in Cave Valley Wash, about 40 miles south of Ely. The public input period concludes at close of business, Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008. Written comments should be addressed to the BLM Ely District Office, HC 33 Box 33500, Ely, NV 89301. The approximately 1,100-acre project would help to restore sagebrush communities, and perennial grasses and forbs that provide shelter and forage for the Greater Sage Grouse, and forage for elk, mule deer and other wildlife species, by stabilizing soils and improving vegetative health and vigor. Treatments to be used are mowing, herbicides and seeding. The project would be implemented by BLM with assistance from Cave Valley Ranch. To learn more or to provide input, contact Cody Coombs, BLM Ely District fuels program manager, at (775) 289-1854 or cody_coombs@nv.blm.gov. -end- |
