Warming to spring cleaning? Make White Pine Green-Up part of your trash-tossing plans and help protect our public lands. White Pine Green-Up is a collaborative effort by the City of Ely and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to keep our public lands clean. In its sixth consecutive year, the program allows White Pine County residents to discard their appliances, automobiles, construction waste, scrap metal and more at the municipal landfill for free. Eldridge Auto Parts and Wheeler Machinery Company accept discarded vehicle batteries, also at no cost to the public. Over the past five years, this innovative and unique program has taken in 1,649 refrigerators, 20 vehicles and 2,315 tons of scrap metal, plus 730 tons of used tires and hundreds of discarded batteries. To learn more about the White Pine Green-Up program, contact Rick Stork, City of Ely Landfill Supervisor at (775) 296-2702, or Melanie Peterson, BLM Ely District Office Environmental Protection Specialist at (775) 289-1829. -end- |
