BLM Road Closures near Mt. Grafton Wilderness in Effect through Friday
Ely, Nev. – For public and firefighter safety, a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely Field Office closure of the Campbell Spring Road, Lake Valley Spring Road (Cattle Camp Road) to U.S. Highway 93 and the road to Robbers Roost will remain in effect through Friday, Sept. 21. The temporary road closures are due to the 2,000-plus acre Sheep Creek Fire, burning in the Mt. Grafton Wilderness Area, about 35 miles south of Ely.
The Sheep Creek Fire is burning between the Sheep Creek Spring and Cattle Camp Spring drainages. The BLM is managing the fire in accordance with the BLM Ely District Managed Natural and Prescribed Fire Plan that identifies areas where allowing wildland fire to resume its natural role in the ecosystem would benefit the natural resources. The plan increases public and firefighter safety. It also increases native vegetative diversity and improves native wildlife habitat. The plan reduces the threat of catastrophic wildfire.
