BLM Nevada News ELY FIELD OFFICE NO. 2007-059 FOR RELEASE: Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007 CONTACT: Chris Hanefeld, (775) 289-1842; chris_hanefeld@nv.blm.gov BLM Temporarily Closes Roads to Mt. Grafton Wilderness Ely, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely Field Office Sunday temporarily closed the Campbell Spring Road, Lake Valley Spring Road (Cattle Camp Road) to Highway 93, and the road to Robbers Roost due to the 1,000-plus acre Sheep Creek Fire that is burning in the Mt. Grafton Wilderness Area, about 35 miles south of Ely. The fire is burning between the Sheep Creek and Campbell Spring Drainages. The BLM is managing the fire in accordance with the BLM Ely District Managed Natural and Prescribed Fire Plan that identifies areas where allowing wildland fire to resume its natural role in the ecosystem would benefit the natural resources. The plan increases public and firefighter safety. It also increases native vegetative diversity and improves native wildlife habitat. The plan reduces the threat of catastrophic wildfire. For more information call Chris Hanefeld, BLM Ely District fire information officer, at (775) 289-1842 or chris_hanefeld@nv.blm.gov. -end-
