BLM Schedules Prescribed Burn in North Spring Valley

Weather conditions permitting, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District is scheduled on or about Tuesday, May 22, 2007, to begin a prescribed burn in North Spring Valley, about 65 miles northeast of Ely, Nev.

The prescribed burn will encompass approximately 1,240 acres on BLM-managed public lands. The burn is part of the North Spring Valley Habitat Improvement and Fuels Reduction Project, which will restore habitat and protect the valley from catastrophic wildfire. The BLM will prescribe fire to thin pinyon and juniper on Spring Valley’s east and west benches.

Area residents may see smoke from the prescribed burn throughout the week. There will also be an increase in fire vehicle traffic in the area.

To learn more, contact Dave Henson, BLM Ely District fuels management specialist, at (775) 289-1800.
